SEO Tools: What We Use, What We Built, and Why

A tool earns its seat if it changes a decision you could not make otherwise. Anything that only restates Search Console data, or exports a spreadsheet nobody opens, is noise — regardless of how good the dashboard looks.
- Does it produce a decision, or just data?
- Can it export cleanly so we own our history?
- Does it survive an API change without a week of downtime?
Free versus paid
Google Search Console, analytics, PageSpeed Insights and a good crawler cover most diagnostic questions for free. Paid platforms earn their cost when you need competitive data, historical depth or multi-seat collaboration.
- Free: Search Console, analytics, Lighthouse, log analysers
- Paid: competitive research, backlink indexes, rank history
- Built in-house: anything touching our own workflow gates
